An assistant principal and a pilot? That’s right! RMHS is honored to have Mrs. Theriault join us this year and many years to come. Although being in Revere Public Schools for seven years, Reading really caught her eye. This is where she really wants to be.
Mrs. Theriault wasn’t thrilled with her old job, where she sat in a secluded office everyday and had no interaction with students or parents. She loves to roam around the school, visit classes and talk to students, and really get to know each and every one of them. Nothing makes Mrs. Theriault happier when a student has a conversation with her, or even a passing hello.
I know, I know. You want to know more about Mrs. Theriault and who she really is outside of school. Yes, indeed, it is true that Mrs. Theriault is a rescue pilot! She first joined the Air Force in 1991 during the Desert Storm, also know as the Gulf War. Mrs. Theriault left the Air Force as a senior airman.
Mrs. Theriault currently flies for the Civil Air Patrol, 2nd lieutenant, and looks for plane crash survivors, missing hikers, etc. The Civil Air patrol is an Auxiliary Air Force. She takes off in her Cessna Skylane 182 in Portsmouth, NH.
Something Mrs. Theriault looks forward to are her friendly competitions. Basically, her friends and herself set up targets on the ground. They fill sacks with flour and try to get as close as possible to drop their flour sacks on the target. The one who is the most accurate wins. Clearly, flying can be a lot of fun when off duty!
Mrs. Theriault recently flew to New York and swam in the Hudson River. She is also a frequent flyer in Maine and New Hampshire. You’re probably wondering how Mrs. Theriault manages her school time with her flying time. Since coming to Reading, sadly, she has had to cut back on her flying hours. Her best time to do so is on the weekends. You never know, maybe she’ll fly over one of our varsity football games and have Mr. Zaya as co-pilot.
Mrs. Theriault loves to go home, and finally relax with her husband, along with 11 year old Pharaoh Hound, Tep (pet spelt backwards) who was flown over all the way from the Netherlands! Even at home, she still thinks about what an awesome group of students RMHS has to offer. She loves communicating and learning from the student body.
Mrs. Theriault declares that even this early on, she is already sure that she made the right decision in coming to RMHS. She appreciates the support given to her; all she asks is that RMHS students stay true to themselves and keep in mind the core values to allow for many successful futures.
If you happen to run into Mrs. Theriault in the halls, be sure to give her a friendly wave or smile or even ask her about flying; you just might be able to take a flying lesson of your own with her!
