For the first time in years, our football team made it to the Super Bowl for two consecutive years this fall. After a tough loss last year against Nashoba Regional, the anxiety for this year’s game was off the charts. The halls were buzzing with excitement from football players and cheerleaders talking stats, members of the Color Guard and band stressing over their big upcoming performance, and students and faculty reminiscing over last year’s crazy fan section.
On game day, people from all over the community congregated outside of Gillette. Whether or not you are an avid football fan, no one can say they weren’t nervous for the outcome of this game. The preceding game ended and RMHS and King Philip's fans alike stormed the stands to try and get a good seat.
After the Pledge of Allegiance and the players took the field, chants cheering on our team began in the student section. As the score got closer, the stress level both on the field and in the stands began to rise. Luckily, to give us all a break from the tension, the two schools’ bands and Color Guard teams put on fun and exciting performances.
As the game went on, even the quietest fans were screaming for Reading’s players. With only a few minutes left, everyone was hoping for some sort of miracle that could save the Rockets... but it was too late.
The team played well throughout the game, never letting their short comings get to their heads. Now, a lot of people are talking about how the team could have won and what caused the loss, but no one can deny that they played a good game. Win or lose, Reading is proud of them for making it so far.
