Alana Loughman and Kayla Loughman

Thanksgiving is the time of the year where family comes together. Everyone gathers at their designated houses and meet up with those they love. Thanksgiving is full of games, conversation, and lots of food.

Food is important on this day as most of the food is used to honor the famous feast between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans. These famous foods always appear on thanksgiving in the form of a family recipe or a store bought gift. Both the supermarket and the kitchen is bustling with life during this time. The “cook” of the family has to make sure they can cater to all of their relatives, so a wide variety of Thanksgiving courses are necessary. Between appetizers, the main course, and dessert these popular Thanksgiving dishes will make your mouth water.

  1. Number one is of course the turkey. Thanksgiving is not thanksgiving without a turkey at the center of the table. On average about 46 million turkeys are eaten each year during thanksgiving!

  2. Stuffing is number two as you can not have a turkey without stuffing to go with it.

  3. Gravy. Gravy is the perfect addition to add to your food as it makes those bland thanksgiving foods much more tasteful.

  4. Mashed potatoes comes in at number 4 as it is the perfect add on to the main course meal.

  5. Green bean casserole is America’s second favorite vegetable. Many have not tried this delicious dish but for those that have, it soon becomes a favorite and will reoccur at the dinner table every Thanksgiving.

  6. Rolls are also a must-have at Thanksgiving. These buttery treats are perfect while you are devouring Thanksgiving dinner. You can always assume that there will be a fight over who gets the last one.

  7. Sweet Potato Casserole comes in at number seven because, even though it is a vegetable, all kids devour the delicious marshmallow layer on top.

  8. Corn on the cob is an essential food as it is the perfect side to complete your plate.

  9. Brussel sprouts squeezes its way in to number 9! Despite the hateful glares and looks of disgust the children will give you, brussel sprouts, especially roasted in the oven, are a great treat for adults and the occasional kid who enjoys this vegetable.

  10. Despite it not being a normal Thanksgiving dish, Mac and Cheese is the final spot as it is the children’s favorite! Homemade recipes make this dish so much more appealing.

Once all the food on the table is devoured, stomachs are

full, and your grandpa is dozing off to sleep, there are also many fun activities to do on Thanksgiving. Most family’s will end their feast with the breaking of the wishbone. This tradition was started by the Romans, and as they traveled around the world they continued to spread it. The Romans believed that whoever got the larger end of the bone when it was split would have their wish come true. Another tradition on thanksgiving is watching football after you eat. Many people reside to the living room to watch whichever team is playing that day. While the parents are watching football, the kids will normally find their own activity to entertain themselves. Most of the time that ends up being either a board game or tag. At the end of the night, everyone joins together to talk and say their goodbyes. Thanksgiving is a time for family, thanks, and love.
